The sun has only been up in the sky for a few minutes, with a strange orange brightness that lights up the whole harbour, and people are already coming and going. The last fishing boats are returning after having gone out in the night, mooring a few metres away from those who are negotiating fish prices.

José wonders with curiosity among the stands and the wooden pallets. He also woke up early to sell his seaweed at the market in San Juan de Marcona, a small Peruvian community in the province of Nazca, where 20,000 live mostly off the sea.
