Equity Chess Team Departs for Egypt

Nairobi 24th July 2017……The Equity Bank Chess Team left for Egypt to represent Kenya in the 2017 African Clubs Champions Cup in Cairo over the weekend.

The team of 9 was flagged off by the Chess Kenya Federation Treasurer Gilbert Wandera to participate at the 10-day tourney. 'This is the first time a Kenyan team is going for this championship and you will do well to bring honour to this country,' said Wandera.

Equity Bank Operations General Manager Miring'u Ng'ang'a said the team has what it takes to win medals in the championship having proven their wit in the Kenya National League.
'You were the League runners up. You are representing the country and that's a big honor. We believe in you and know that you will be victorious in Cairo,' he said.

The team comprises of Captain Bernard Wanjala, International Master (IM) Arthur SSegwanyi, International Master (IM) Elijah Emojong, Candidate Master (CM) Kenneth Omolo Fide Master (FM) Steve Ouma, Candidate Master (CM) John Mukabi, Victor Hongo, Njagi Kabugu and Moses Andiwoh.

The Equity team currently at the top of 2017 league table, will be making its debut at the continental stage alongside other clubs that topped their respective countries.
