Company investing $1.4 million; installing additional 1.5 miles of lines in town

BERLIN, Conn. - Residents and business owners in the Bel-Aire Park and Ramblewood Park areas of Groton will soon be able to take advantage of the benefits of natural gas, as Eversource begins construction to expand the gas distribution system there. The company is investing $1.4 million to make the clean-burning and affordable fuel available in the community.

"It's about serving the neighborhoods where we work and live and this latest project in Groton is another example of our efforts to make natural gas available to more communities across Connecticut," said Eversource President of Gas Operations Bill Akley. "We continue to hear from more and more people who want access to this efficient and environmentally-friendly fuel to heat their homes or businesses, and we're working hard to make it happen."

The Groton expansion project involves installing more than 7,000 feet of underground pipe along Noank-Ledyard and Sharon roads; Farmstead and Judson avenues; Shelby and Clipper courts; Swan and Topsail lanes; as well as Somersett Drive and Irving Street. Eversource works cooperatively with community leaders and customers to minimize the impact to traffic and coordinate with other roadwork happening in the area. Drivers may experience delays due to alternating, one-way traffic.

The project is now underway and weather permitting, crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The work is expected to be finished in mid-December.

New customers will be able to use natural gas for home heating, water heating, clothes drying, cooking, as well as barbecuing, fueling firepits, and even heating swimming pools and hot tubs. In addition to being dramatically cleaner - 30 percent less CO2 and 99 percent less sulfur than heating oil - natural gas is more convenient, requiring no deliveries and no annual system cleanings.

To make the change to natural gas even easier, Eversource is now offering discount pricing on a range of standard and high efficiency boilers, furnaces and water heaters. The Value Price Program (VPP) packages include permits, labor and removal of old equipment. New customers will also be able to participate in several energy efficiency programs Eversource offers through Energize Connecticut.
