MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 11, 2019)
- As part of its deep commitment to empowering families in New Hampshire and supporting economic development in the Granite State, Eversource recently presented a grant to the Front Door Agency of Nashua to support a program that provides housing and comprehensive support to single mothers and children facing homelessness. Through its Transformational Housing Program, the Front Door Agency provides more than just shelter to women in crisis, it also offers access to a support network that helps them to achieve greater self-sufficiency and to work toward a brighter future for their family.

'Our philosophy is to stop the cycle of crisis by providing women with a fresh start and the support they need to transform their lives, rather than a temporary solution,' said Chief Development Officer Maria Finnegan. 'Once we stabilize a single-mother in crisis by providing housing, we help her to access education and financial literacy training that will empower her with the tools and confidence she needs to achieve success both personally and professionally.'

By emphasizing life skills and education as the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, The Front Door Agency's holistic, three-phase Transformational Housing Program has helped thousands of women in the Greater Nashua area since it was founded in 1987. More than 75 percent of the women in the non-profit's Transformational Housing Program have graduated from a job skills training program, earned a professional certificate or completed a secondary education program.

'We know that the health of our communities is critical to the economic success of our state,' said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Elizabeth LaRocca. 'In addition to transforming the lives of women in our community, the Front Door Agency is building a brighter future for the next generation. When children are provided a safe, warm and supportive environment, they have the freedom to think creatively. We're grateful for the opportunity to support this non-profit's important work serving the neighborhoods where we work and live.'
