The Town of Durham recently celebrated its 40th anniversary participating in the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA program, and we couldn't imagine a better way to commemorate this significant accomplishment than by planting an Elm tree downtown for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come. The tree was planted in time for a celebration of the Granite State's longest standing Tree City USA member at the town's Music on Main event last week.

"We were honored to have the opportunity to recognize Durham for its leadership and focus on enhancing green spaces in the community with planned plantings and sound urban forestry management," said Eversource NH Arborist Robert Berner. "Together with the Town of Durham, we're in good company as we work to strengthen the Tree City USA program throughout the state."

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the Town of Durham's ongoing efforts to satisfy the requirements of the Tree City USA Program, which include investment in a community forest program, a town Tree Warden, landscaping, trimming and caring for trees, as well as recognizing and commemorating Arbor Day each year.

"We appreciate Eversource's support of our commitment to maintaining downtown Durham's green spaces," said Durham Public Works Director Mike Lynch. "The company's donation and planting of an Elm tree was a wonderful way to honor our 40th anniversary as a Tree City and helps ensure all our residents and visitors downtown can enjoy the benefits of trees."
