BOSTON - Interested customers can get up close, ask questions and see how large-scale solar power works this Saturday as Eversource showcases the solar parking lot canopy at its New Bedford work center. The energy company joins hundreds of other organizations in more than 650 cities and towns across the country hosting similar solar open houses and tours this weekend.

"We're proud to participate in the National Solar Tour and showcase to the community our efforts to provide competitively priced, zero-emission solar power to customers," said Eversource Vice President of Business Development Mike Ausere. "We were one of the first energy companies in the nation to build a universal solar plant more than eight years ago in Pittsfield and it's exciting to see how much growth we are seeing in the solar sector."

The National Solar Tour is the largest grassroots solar event in the U.S., providing an opportunity for solar homes and businesses around the country to open their doors to neighbors and solar supporters in their communities. Eversource is proud to share its clean energy expertise by showing off the New Bedford solar canopy, one of four statewide. The solar canopies are part of the overall Eversource initiative to bring an additional 62 megawatts of clean energy from the sun to the electric grid by 2019.

Eversource is powering the possible by supporting the state's efforts of having 15 percent renewable energy by 2020. In addition to the solar canopies, the energy company has 15 ground mounted solar sites. The new facilities will collectively generate enough clean energy to power more than 10,000 homes, and help bring a significant reduction in greenhouse emissions, equivalent to taking more than 6,000 cars off the road per year.

Eversource invites interested residents and businesses to 50 Duchaine Boulevard in New Bedford's business park on Saturday October 6, from 9am-noon. Light refreshments will be served.
