CORDOVA, Ill. - Employees at Exelon Generation's Quad Cities Station are focused on giving back this holiday season, providing thousands of dollars to local nonprofit organizations.

'We believe in powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities,' said Quad Cities Station Site Vice President Ken Ohr. 'Part of that commitment is supporting local charities and nonprofit organizations that provide vital community services to local families.'

Each year the station supports dozens of organizations focused on education, environmental preservation, health and human services, arts, culture and community development. This holiday season alone, more than $20,000 has been donated to local charities and nonprofits, most of which was made possible through employee fundraising. Those donations include:

  • $4,632 to Komen of Greater Iowa
  • $10,000 to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities
  • $2,500 to Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois STEM programs
  • $250 to Quad City Botanical Center
  • $1,000 to Together We Share, Together We Care
  • $1,500 - Fulton community Christmas dinner
  • $500 - Illinois/Iowa Center for Independent Living Holiday Carnival for Children with Disabilities
  • 31 families received gifts via 100 Angel Tree Tags for Ann's Helping Hands
  • 100 pounds of food donated to the Port Byron Food Pantry with donations received during the station's children's holiday party. The cost of admission was one canned good per child.

'Exelon Generation's contribution allowed us to supply six nursing homes with a generous quantity of items,' said Kimberly Teats-Garrison, founder of Together We Share, Together We Care, which provides holiday gifts to area nursing home residents. 'As the founder/director of the program, I was concerned donations may fall short this year but Exelon's donation took away all of that worry and helped us make it a joyous season for our elderly clients.'

The station's 2018 Employee Giving Campaign raised more than $233,000 to distribute to the United Way and other employee-chosen charities. In 2019, Quad Cities Generating Station will distribute close to $100,000 in sponsorships and donations, supporting events and organizations such as the John Deere Classic, Dress for Success of the Quad Cities, QC Pride, The QC Empowerment Network, the Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley, the Quad Cities Airshow, Boy Scouts - Illowa Council, various local school programs and more.

Quad Cities Generating Station is located approximately three miles north of Cordova, Ill. on Illinois Route 84 in Rock Island County. The station's two reactors can produce more than 1,900 megawatts of carbon-free electricity.
