  • He has extensive experience in technology and digitalization in the transport and infrastructure sectors
  • He replaces Federico Flórez, who is stepping down in line with the company's succession planning

The Board of Directors of Ferrovial has announced the appointment of Dimitris Bountolos as Chief Information and Innovation Officer (CIIO). He was previously Chief Digital Officer at Latam airlines. He replaces Federico Flórez, who is leaving the company after 12 years in this position, in line with the succession plans. Dimitris will take office in early July.

Bountolos has spent his career in business and entrepreneurship, with a proven track record in aeronautics and consulting. Dimitris Bountolos (Granada, 1978) spent much of his career in Iberia, where he was Director of Madrid-Barajas airport, Transformation and Hub Development Director, and Vice-President of Customer Experience.

As an entrepreneur, he has been a founder and partner of such startups as Zero 2 Infinity (Europe's first investor-owned aerospace transport company), Guudjob (Employee Experience); BlueSouth (Drones); and IllusionBox (VR and immersive environments). He was also formerly a senior advisor to the Chief Innovation Officer at NASA in Houston; and senior advisor to McKinsey on digital processing for the travel, transportation and logistics industry. He holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Granada and post-graduate qualifications from Stanford, ESADE and IESE Business Schools. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Greek.

'Dimitris's experience in applying new technologies and his knowledge of the transport industry are ideal for enhancing Ferrovial's business through the digitalization and innovation processes that we need in order to develop and operate sustainable, efficient, innovative infrastructure,' said Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.

Federico Flórez, who is leaving the company in line with the established succession plans, is looking forward to other professional endeavors. He joined Ferrovial in 2008 as Chief Information and Innovation Officer (CIIO). A Naval Engineer with an MBA who completed Senior Management courses at Harvard, INSEAD and MIT, Federico spearheaded the digital transformation process at Ferrovial in recent years, with projects such as the Digital Hub and the adoption of the startups ecosystem, plus the development of a systems technology.

'Federico has put Ferrovial among the industry leaders in innovation, having prepared the company for the upcoming challenges in infrastructure and mobility, characterized by the search for innovative, sustainable solutions. We wish him every success in his future projects,' said Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.
