  • The initiative will benefit 3,900 people in the Madrid districts of Villaverde and Latina
  • Ferrovial has donated €1.75 million in the Madrid region through several activities

Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial, today signed a cooperation agreement with Pablo Llano, Director of CESAL, an international humanitarian aid organization, which will allow the distributibution of 105,000 meals among families in a vulnerable situaton in the Madrid districts of Villaverde and Latina. The initiative, which will benefit 3,900 people, was made possible by the donation of €300,000 by the company from its 'Ferrovial Juntos COVID-19' fund.

Madrid City Government is also involved in this project, having allocated the kitchens of the Nuestra Señora del Lucero and Costa Rica public schools and the Casa de Campo catering school to produce 2,900 meals per day for over 600 families. Once school resumed, the project transferred to the Mirador complex at Cuatro Vientos aerodrome in order to assist vulnerable families in the Latina district. The food for the Villaverde district is cooked and distributed from the city's Gastrolab facilities.

Ferrovial's CEO and the Director of CESAL visited the facilities at Cuatro Vientos, accompanied by Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, and Alberto Serrano, Alderman for the Latina district.

This initiative is part of the distribution of resources undertaken by the company through the 'Ferrovial Juntos COVID-19' fund, which to date has distributed €7.22 million for healthcare equipment, research and social assistance in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Chile and Portugal. It has distributed €1.75 million in the Madrid region.

This is the latest of the company's initiatives to combat the pandemic. Ferrovial has mobilized all its resources to protect the health of its workers and of the people who use the infrastructure it operates. It has also worked with the authorities to distribute healthcare material, develop mobile apps (such as Coronamadrid) for self-diagnosis and contact tracing, and set up hospitals (such as the one at the Madrid Convention Center) and fast testing centers.
