Comment on FCA's May Sales in Europe
  • Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) reported May sales in Europe of 101,200 vehicles with market share at 7.0%. This represented an increase of 0.4 percentage points over April and 1.0 percentage point over March. For the five months year-to-date, sales totaled more than 450,000 vehicles and market share was 6.5%.
  • Jeep posted a 2.1% increase in European sales for the year-to-date. This reflected growth of 72.8% for the Wrangler, 13.2% for the Cherokee and 5.3% for the Renegade
  • Lancia sales were up 19.8% in May to more than 6,000 vehicles and a record 30.8% for the year-to-date with 30,400 vehicles sold
  • The Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda continued to post strong results with the 500 ranked first in the A segment in May (18.1% increase) and the Panda first for the year-to-date (15.5% increase). The two models held a combined 33.6% share of the A segment
  • In Germany, FCA sales were up 2.0% for the month and 2.9% for the year-to-date. In Poland, FCA sales were up 6.2% for the month and 6.4% for the year-to-date

FCA posted May sales in Europe of 101,200 vehicles with market share at 7.0%. This represented an increase of 0.4 percentage points over April and 1.0 percentage point over March. For the five months year-to-date, Group sales totaled more than 450,000 vehicles and market share was 6.5%.
In Germany, Group sales were up 2.0% for the month and 2.9% for the year-to-date. In Poland, FCA sales were up 6.2% for the month and 6.4% for the year-to-date.
The Fiat 500, Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon all posted strong performances in May. The 500 was A-segment leader in May (18.1% increase), the Panda was A-segment leader for the year-to-date (15.5% increase) and the Ypsilon continued as B-segment leader in Italy with sales up 30.8% for the year-to-date.

Results by Brand

Jeep posted May sales of more than 16,100 vehicles (13,700 in April) with market share up 0.1 percentage points month-over-month to 1.1%. Year-to-date, sales totaled 75,700 vehicles (+2.1% year-over-year) with market share at 1.1%.
The brand significantly outperformed the market in both the UK and Spain. In the UK, brand share was up 13.0% in May compared with a 4.6% decline for the market. In Spain, sales were up 11.1% for the month (-7.3% for the market) and 46.9% for the year-to-date (-4.7% for the market).
Sales results were positive for the Wrangler (+28.5% in May, +72.8% year-to-date), Cherokee (+13.2% year-to-date) and Renegade (+5.3% year-to-date).

Alfa Romeo posted May sales of nearly 4,700 vehicles with market share at 0.3%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled 24,000 vehicles and market share was 0.3%.
Sales were particularly positive in Spain, where brand sales were up 25.7% year-to-date.
The Stelvio was leader in its segment in Italy for the year-to-date, while the Giulia was one of the best-selling sedans in its segment.

Fiat brand sales totaled more than 73,800 vehicles in May, with share up 0.3 percentage points over the prior month to 5.1%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled nearly 317,000 vehicles, accounting for a 4.6% share of the market.
Sales were particularly positive in both Germany (+8.1% in May and +6.8% year-to-date) and France (+2.9% in May).
The Panda and 500 dominated the A segment. The 500 was segment leader in May with sales up 18.1% to 23,000 vehicles. At 18.7%, the model also posted its best-ever segment share. Year-to-date, the 500 was second in the A segment with 89,800 vehicles sold and share reaching 15.4% overall and a record 16.1% outside of Italy. The Panda was second in the A segment for the month (18,300 vehicles sold, 14.85% segment share) and first for the year-to-date (+15.5% to 90,000 vehicles, 15.4% segment share).
The two models held a combined segment share of 33.6% in May and 30.8% for the year-to-date. Results were also strong for the 500X, which posted a 10.45% sales increase in May, the 500L (among the leaders in its segment) and the Tipo, which was C-segment leader in Italy.

Lancia continued its strong performance in May with sales up 19.8% to more than 6,000 vehicles and market share at 0.4%. Year-to-date, brand sales were up a record 30.8% to 30,400 vehicles and market share was 0.1 percentage points higher at 0.4%.
The Ypsilon continued as B-segment leader in Italy for the year-to-date with a significant gap over the nearest competitor. The new Black and Noir is already making a significant contribution to the model's success.
