Fiserv Inc. has launched a unique mobile checkout technology called Scan to Pay, which allows restaurants using the Clover POS platform to check out customers using Apple Pay on their iPhones, without the need for an additional app download.

Scan to Pay allows guests with Apple Pay on an iPhone, scan a Clover-generated QR code located at the bottom of their restaurant receipt. The technology eliminates the need for a guest to provide a credit card to the server.

The technology is considered particularly useful in high volume, full-service restaurants where customers are pressed for time, like an airport restaurant or restaurants serving pre-show theater customers who need to get to their seats quickly and don’t have time to stand in line or wait for servers to sign a check.

"As restaurants look for new ways to adapt to consumer trends and offer quality dining experiences, Scan to Pay puts the power of when to pay and leave into the hands of the restaurant guest, creating a better dining experience and reducing extra tasks for servers," John Beatty, co-founder of Clover, said in a company release from Fiserv.
