The Kansas City Council has issued a proclamation giving special recognition to the American Jazz Museum, Ford Motor Company Fund and Smithsonian Institution for supporting cultural enrichment programs
The "American Sabor" exhibit, national tour and related programs in Kansas City and 11 other cities across the nation are made possible by contributions from Ford Fund
Ford Fund has contributed more than $1.3 billion to thousands of nonprofit organizations throughout the United States, with a special focus on education, driving safety and community life
KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 25, 2013 - The Kansas City Council issued a proclamation today offering special recognition to Ford Motor Company Fund, the American Jazz Museum and Smithsonian Institution for bringing the "American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music"traveling Smithsonian exhibit to the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City from Aug. 1 through Oct. 27.
"American Sabor" illustrates the diverse contributions of Latin musicians, and highlights their innovations within genres of music understood to be indigenous to the United States, such as jazz, R&B, rock 'n' roll and hip-hop. The traveling exhibit is complemented by an interactive website that includes lesson plans, video oral histories from Latin music stars, a jukebox and a guestbook for visitors to share their own "American Sabor" experience.

Members of the media are invited to a sneak preview of the exhibit on July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. Representatives from Ford Fund, Smithsonian Institution and the American Jazz Museum will be available. Media also are welcome at a private reception for the exhibit that will be held at the American Jazz Museum later that day at 6 p.m.
