Berlin, 16.05.2019 - IoT gateways are primarily used for the monitoring, control and cryptographically secured transfer of data in the production process. However, FP's IoT gateways offer even more than that. The international expert jury of the Red Dot Award has now also been able to convince itself of this fact.

FP's IoT Gateway: robust, user-friendly and individual

Companies from 55 countries submitted more than 5,500 products to the design competition, which closely examines everything from headphones to cars. Sustainable and customisable products are currently very popular. The IoT Gateway convinced the jurors within the framework of a quality test lasting several days and won the coveted 'Product Design 2019' award - with a product that at first sight may appear to be somewhat in need of explanation and not very sexy, but which attracts the attention of customers.

'The recognition with this coveted seal of quality is further confirmation that careful design development is also worthwhile for products where the appearance at first glance may play a subordinate role,' says Rüdiger Andreas Günther, CEO of FP.

The jury praised not only the high design quality, but also the functionality of the IoT gateway. The housing is suitable for different environments, since it is not only robust, but also watertight and dustproof. Various colour options give the gateway variants additional individuality. As a result, the FP portfolio clearly distinguishes itself from its rival products. Keeping the design simple means that the device is easy to operate.

Good design: more important than ever

According to the 'State of Create 2016' study, good design makes all the difference for almost two-thirds of Germans when it comes to purchasing. 61 per cent of respondents choose the option with the better appearance if two products are equivalent. Over the long term, the design also pays off in terms of customer loyalty. 58 per cent of the German respondents stated that a harmonious layout promotes their loyalty to a brand.

In 2012 the experts in secure communication were awarded with the Red Dot Award in the 'Product Design' category for their PostBase franking system. The award, which was created by the Design-Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen, has been presented in the categories of Product Design, Design Concept and Communication Design since 1955. Winning products may bear the red dot as an internationally recognised seal of quality for outstanding design. The prize-winners will receive their awards on July 8 at Essen Opera House.
