This Tuesday afternoon, Raúl Alarcón became the first foreign cycler to win the Portugal Tour with the blue and white jersey, assuring the victory with a lead of 1:23 over his teammate Amaro Antunes, second. In the final time trial, of 20.1 kilometres, in Viseu, the Spanish was second, 14 seconds behind the best time (26:00.72), which belonged to also blue and white cycler Gustavo Veloso, but it was more than enough to assure the victory, as Amaro Antues was slower (1:06 behind the leader, reaching the tenth place. The blue and white victory was almost a certainty, given the lead of 5:04, achieved in the previous stage, on Monday, over Vicente Garcia de Mateos (Louletano-Hospital de Loulé), third and the first non-Dragon.

The second victory is one of the consequents of the nearly complete dominance of W52-FC Porto-Mestre da Cor in the 89th edition of the competition, with another consequence being the victory in the team overall (with a lead of nearly 24 minutes over RP-Boavista, second), and another the victory in six of eleven stages. Amaro Antunes assured the blue jersey, meant for the winner of the mountain stage, and there is another Dragon in the top ten, António Carvalho, sixth. It should also be said that Alarcón was the leader after the first stage, which means the 14th individual and team victories for FC Porto in the history of the Portugal Tour could hardly taste any better. This afternoon's time trial was just for the consecration, as the opponents were left with nothing but the last step in the podium (Vicente García de Mateos, from Louletano-Hospital de Loulé, 5:25 behind the winner) and the jersey by points (de Mateos) and youth (won by the Latvian champion, Krists Neilands, from Israel Cycling Academy).

Alarcón - who had a great final stage, only beaten by time trial specialist Gustavo Veloso - ends a dream season, as he also won the Asturias Tour, beating the Colombian super champion Nairo Quintana, and the historical Jornal de Notícias Grand Prix, also coming mere centimetres from winning the Madrid Tour.
