Accra, Feb. 12, GNA -Ethiopian Airlines, the Largest Aviation Group in Africa and SKYTRAX CertifiedFour Star Global Airline, has been awarded gold prize as the top performingcargo transportation airline twice in a row.
The award was handedto Ethiopian Airlines for being the first airline among top 10 cargo operatorsto the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
A statement from theAirline said the Award was announced at the Customers Annual Meeting, organisedby Guangzhou Bayiun International Airport.
It said Ethiopian hadthe largest share, more than 11 per cent of the total international cargotransportation at the Airport.
Mr TewoldeGebreMariam, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, said: “We are very honoured thatGuangzhou Airport has recognised us with this prestigious award."
It said EthiopianCargo and Logistics, which operates nine ultra-modern Boeing 777 Freighters,each with 100 tonnes uplift capacity, was facilitating trade flow betweenAfrica and the rest of the world, thereby contributing to the economicdevelopment of the continent.
The statement said inparticular, it was playing an important role in the success of the China OneBelt One Road Initiative by availing critical air infrastructure that wasboosting cargo export and import between Africa and China.
"I wish to thankall my colleagues at Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics for this well-deservedrecognition and encourage them to work even harder to support Africa’s economictransformation,” it said.
Ethiopian won thisaward for the second time in a row out performing competitor airlines bytransporting 38,800 tonnes of import and export cargo to and from BaiyunInternational Airport in Guangzhou in 2018 alone.
