HUNTINGTON - From crayons to notebooks, pencils and pens, H&R Block wants to make sure all teachers and their students have the needed supplies to be effective every day.
Jan. 14 is known as national "Clean Off Your Desk Day," but H&R Block says it's working to do the exact opposite by hosting H&R Block "Stocks the Desk" event that day.
Sharita Hutton Cole, a communications manager for H&R Block, says the school supply drive benefits schools in Huntington, Charleston and many other cities across the country.
"All H&R Block offices in Huntington, Charleston and surrounding cities will be open and accepting donations that will go to schools in their area," Cole said. "In addition to school supplies, one school in the area will also receive a $250 gift card."
She said there are four location in the Huntington area, including at 705 9th Ave.; 4341 U.S. 60; 5636 U.S. 60; and at 1 Chesapeake Plaza, Suite 5.
"We have a total of 24 offices across the Tri-State area that are also participating in this event," Cole added.
She said H&R Block believes supporting local schools is part of being good neighbors.
"Associates continually work to improve the communities where they live and work," she said.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 14, H&R Block offices will be open and taking donations.
"The last two weeks associates have been working hard to collect donation items," Cole said. "Now is the time for the community to also come out and help local schools by dropping off school supply items."
