Students from 10 Brevard County middle schools today gathered at Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) in Palm Bay, Florida, to participate in the Harris STEM Challenge - which showcases students' science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills.

The students took part in a series of hands-on, problem-based activities focused on collaboration, communication, designing and building skills. Activities included a cube satellite build, a communications team challenge, an escape-room-style puzzle and a Minecraft coding session.

'Giving students the opportunity to engage in STEM activities helps to foster interest in career fields that are vital to our community and our nation,' said Bryant Henson, vice president and general manager, Avionics Business Unit, Harris Electronic Systems. 'Harris is committed to supporting STEM opportunities that inspire and encourage the next generation of innovators.'

The event is part of a year-long program, in partnership with Brevard Public Schools, that seeks to educate and inspire students in STEM. Classroom lessons encourage students to be innovative, collaborative critical thinkers and problem solvers. The program engages students in activities that reflect both learning standards and real-world applications, helping to address the educational needs of today and the workforce of tomorrow.

In the last 10 years, Harris has contributed more than $20 million to support STEM education projects and initiatives at the elementary, middle, high school and university levels. Harris employees across the U.S. have volunteered thousands of hours supporting STEM education in local classrooms and hosted hundreds of students at Harris facilities.
