Two weeks after wrapping up his sixth MotoGP world title, Honda rider Marc Marquez kept the good times rolling by dominating Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi.

The Spaniard shot off the line from pole position and was only headed for a few corners in the first lap by eventual second-place finisher Fabio Quartararo, but otherwise was imperious in his 0.87-second victory.

Rookie Frenchman Quartararo kept the deficit to about a second for most of the race and held on valiantly to cross second.

Quartararo was unable to pull his Yamaha within striking distance of Marquez, who has 10 wins this season, including four in a row, and who now has a mammoth 119-point lead over Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso in the rider standings.

Marquez's win gave Honda the manufacturers' title.

Italy's Dovizioso made a late charge to pressure Quartararo but ran out of laps and finished third. Maverick Vinales crossed fourth on his Yamaha.

Fan favorite and seven-time premier class world champion Valentino Rossi of Italy was circulating outside of the top-10 when he crashed with four laps to go, disappointing his legion of "yellow 46"-clad fans.

Japan's Takaagi Nakagami finished 16th, one place out of the points.

Luca Marini crossed the line first in Moto2 to claim his second win in a row. The Italian dived past Thomas Luthi with two laps to go and was never headed again.

Jorge Martin, last year's Moto3 world champion, finished third behind Luthi while Japan's main hope Tetsuta Nagashima had a horror time, crashing on the sighting lap and then again in the first corner of the race.

In Moto3, Japanese rider Tatsuki Suzuki saw what looked like a sure podium slip through his fingers on the final lap when Italian Celestino Vietti slid up the inside in the final complex of corners to drop him to fourth.

Another Italian, Lorenzo Dalla Porta won to extend his championship lead with Spain'sAlbert Arenas finishing second.
