We're grateful to all our employees for being transparent about how HubSpot can continue to iterate on our culture and where we're we're on the right track!

HubSpot's company culture is defined in ourCulture Code, a 128-page slide deck consisting of our values, beliefs and aspirations for the company we hope to become. Given our core values of autonomy and transparency outlined in the Culture Code, we encourage employees to think like founders and lead with feedback on how we can improve. We've used much of this feedback to implement new programs, playbooks and experiences for candidates, customers and employees. It's this culture of entrepreneurship and impact that we believe makes HubSpot a best workplace.

Here are a few of the initiatives we've implemented recently as a result of employee feedback and their ideas for how we can build a better company:

  • HEART Interview Question Model:In order to create aremarkable candidate experiencethat's both inclusive and fair, HubSpot implemented ourHEART Interviewing Questionsat the end of 2018 in order to break away from the 'rinse and repeat' model to grow a global team of people who don't just fit our culture, but add to it. These questions are based on our values of humility, empathy, adaptability, remarkability, and transparency, as well as customer-centricity questions, given our commitment to solving for the customer. We also grew our People Analytics team so that we are calibrating and analyzing interview data over time. That way, we can make hiring decisions based on data, not gut feelings, in order tomitigate interview bias and continue to identify ways to improve our hiring process and the diversity composition of our teams globally.   • EPIC Week for Product & Engineering:EPIC Weekis our Engineering and Product Internal Conference that takes place over the course of four days each year. We've iterated a ton on the content and format over the years, but generally the bones of the week include keynote events, UX speaker series, engineering talk series, 2-3 miscellaneous programs and more. It would be a disservice to the team for us not to capitalize on the deep knowledge and insights team members have and are constantly gaining regarding product, engineering and UX. And because we also believe in sharing openly and being transparent, we want to walk the walk and not just talk the talk when it comes to our core values. From that knowledge, and a desire to keep enriching our culture, EPIC week was born thanks to the ideas and feedback of our employees.

  • Women's Web App Workshop:Another one of our favorite examples of employees' ideas directly impacting our business goals and community is the Women's Web App Workshop, which today has become a free HubSpot Academy course called "Building Your First Web App", for aspiring developers. In 2016, a few product and engineering team members recognized that female computer science majors weren't making it as far in HubSpot's engineering interview process as male candidates because they often didn't have real projects that they'd built on their resumes. So they asked themselves how HubSpot could help give them the skills they needed to be job-ready. That's how the in-person Web App Workshop came to be. Today, hundreds of women have taken the Web App Workshop in the US and Ireland, and have built working web apps as a result. While Building Your First Web App is inspired by the original women's Web App Workshop, this course isn't just for women. It's for anyone, anywhere who wants to try their hand at building a real project. It's inclusive of skill level, education, and background. The hope is that this course can help people build the skills they need to land great jobs in engineering, but also the confidence to do so.

  • Services Team Show and Tell: Show and Tell is a Services-led workshop around a central theme every month to share best practices around customer success, and for the greater Services team to ask questions about similar situations they may be facing. In the "Show" part, we invite Services team members with learnings and success stories to share how they've done it (e.g: helping agencies re-engage one of their dormant channel deals). In the "Tell" part, we invite Services team members with questions and on-going cases to ask their questions and receive support and advice from others who may have come across similar situations before. It's a great, informal way for managers, individual contributors, and leadership to listen to the challenges team members are facing and share solutions for how to tackle those challenges.

These are just a few examples of how HubSpot employees' ideas and feedback have made our company better recently. Thanks to them, we're a Best Workplace in Technology today and will continue to work hard on building a culture they, and our customers, are proud of.
