I.Ceram, specialized in innovative orthopedic implants and ceramic implants, announces the first implantation of a porous alumina ceramic sternum in Clinique Saint-George in Nice. Surgery was performed at the end of January 2017 by Dr C. Perrotin, cardio-vascular surgeon and ran smoothly. This implantation in another hospital allows I.Ceram to include the third patient in the STOIC clinical trial and to stop inclusions. Data from this study should validate technological choices.

Dr Perrotin chose the ceramic sternum developed by I.Ceram to replace the sternum of one of his patient. She was then included in the clinical trial (STOIC) managed by Dr F Bertin at the Limoges teaching Hospital.

Dr F. Bertin helped Dr Perrotin for this surgery. This device which offers a complete biocompatibility was firstly implanted in March 2015, with thus a follow up of 2 years. With this device, surgeons have an implant which allows a shorter operation time and a lower risk of infection.

Patient was discharged after only 10 days after surgery. She is well-being and Dr Perrotin says: 'To date, surgery is a success and the patient is in a good shape. Ceramic sternum met my needs during surgery. On a surgical point of view, it gives a less complex option, less painful than other reconstructive techniques such as orthopedic cement or metallic parts'.

With this new implantation, I.Ceram confirms its will to obtain CE marking for ceramic sternal implant and thus to sell this product on the European market.
