Notice Concerning Impact of Typhoon Hagibis (Second Report)

INPEX expresses its deepest sympathies to all those affected by Typhoon Hagibis (Typhoon No. 19), which caused damaged across many areas starting on October 12, 2019.

With regard to the impact of Typhoon Hagibis on INPEX's natural gas trunk pipeline network in Japan, INPEX identified the possibility that a portion of the Tokyo Line located in Nagano Prefecture had sustained damaged on October 13, 2019, as announced on the same day(1). Updates and plans concerning this matter are outlined below.

2. A portion of the Tokyo Line located in Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture, has sustained a fracture due to the collapse of an abutment caused by the flooding of the Chikuma River.
3. As announced, INPEX has already closed the affected segment of the pipeline and secured safety, and the residual gas in the pipeline was disposed in a safe manner.
4. The Matsumoto Line, which runs in the same area as the affected segment of the Tokyo Line, was also shut down as a precaution due to the risk of damage resulting from its exposure brought on by the flooding of the Chikuma River, and the residual gas in the pipeline was disposed in a safe manner.
5. INPEX has completed the cutting of both ends of the affected segments of both pipelines, and will now work alongside concerned parties including the local government to determine the best course of action regarding the removal of the affected segments of both pipelines and the restoration of operations.

5. The supply of natural gas to customers located along the Tokyo and Matsumoto lines is continuing without disruption by being rerouted to alternative pipelines.

The company will promptly release information on further developments concerning this matter as required.
