The Project aims to improve the energy efficiency of existing district heating systems in Europe. The district heating system of Tuzla, which is supplied by thermal energy from cogeneration in TPP Tuzla, presents one of the 8 demonstration cases which will be analyzed within the Project. The objective of the Project is to identify appropriate technical and organizational measures for the production, distribution and consumption of thermal energy for selected district heating demo cases. Through optimization and use of economic tools, potential investment measures for energy efficiency improvements of the selected district heating systems will be ranked. The results will then be multiplied on DH systems which are selected as the Project's followers in Europe, and which have already expressed their support for the Project (from Bosnia and Herzegovina the Project's followers are DH Lukavac which is supplied by heat from cogeneration in TPP Tuzla , DH Kakanj which is supplied by heat from cogeneration in TPP Kakanj, Toplane Sarajevo and EkoToplane Gračanica).
In the Project's team on behalf of JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d.- Sarajevo, besides representatives of the Strategic Development Department, representatives of TPP Tuzla and Central heating Tuzla are involved. The Kick-off meeting was held on 3rd and 4th of May 2018 at the headquarter of the Project's coordinator WIP Renewable Energies in Munich, whereby the Project activities officially started and will last 36 months in total.
After the Horizon 2020 CoolHeating project, which deals with the 4th generation of district heating systems, by participating in the EU Horizon 2020 grant project Upgrade DH, JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d.- Sarajevo continues to transfer the best available technologies and good practices in fields of interest for the Company's development, in this particular case in the field of district heating, as one of the long-term strategic business orientations of JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d.- Sarajevo.
