Beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year, California Virtual Academies (CAVA), nine independent public charter schools throughout the state, will offer the Destinations Career Academy (DCA at CAVA) for students in grades nine through twelve. DCA at CAVA students will have the opportunity to get a jump start on their college and career goals, as they are immersed in an online platform that allows them to seek out new experiences while earning a high school diploma.

DCA at CAVA is a full-time online program that combines traditional academics with industry-relevant, career-focused pathways of study. DCA at CAVA students will choose from a variety of courses to gain exposure to in-demand fields of business, finance, marketing, sales and service.

“We are thrilled to expand CAVA’s academic offerings to include this innovative career preparedness program,” said April Warren, Head of Schools. “Students enroll with us because they want to make the most of their public education. The Destinations Career Academy will allow them to prepare for their future starting today.”

According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, more than 6.3 million jobs are expected to open in California between 2010 and 2020. Of those, 65% will require an education level of an Associate degree or less, with more than one million job openings only requiring a high school diploma. In that same period, jobs in the finance and insurance industries are projected to grow by 21 percent in the state. DCA at CAVA will offer students an opportunity to build specialized skills to prepare to enter these in-demand fields.

CAVA’s live online classes are led by credentialed teachers, who can tailor instruction to meet each student’s needs. In addition to the Destinations Career Academy courses, CAVA students study the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, and history, as well as world languages and a host of electives.

Enrollment in Destinations Career Academy at CAVA is open for the 2019-2020 school year.
