KALBE COMMEMORATES NATIONAL GARBAGE AWARENESS DAY

today participates in the National Garbage Awareness Day which is attended by Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.SC as Minister of Environment, and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, Governor of DKI Jakarta, at Bundaran HI Jakarta. The event is attended by more than 2,000 participants from 30 communities/companies and supported by DKI Jakarta's City Sanitation Department and the Ministry of Environment.

'Kalbe as a company that is already over 50 years old and cares for health will not stay silent in creating a work environment that is clean and healthy,' said Irawati Setiady, President Director of PT Kalbe Farma, Tbk. 'In this National Garbage Awareness Day, we implore everyone to constantly manage waste within all work activities as healthy living culture. The spirit and commitment must be constantly maintained to realize Garbage-Free Indonesia in 2020,' Irawaty added.

Kalbe has started several programs that is related with waste management and will continue them, i.e. garbage sorting in all Kalbe offices, Plastic-bag Diets, avoiding the use of Styrofoam, using paper wisely, implementing Zero Waste Event in all employees' events, and constantly do socialization activities on the importance of managing workplace waste wisely.

The National Garbage Awareness Day (NGAD) is commemorated on every 21 February, as commemoration of the tragedy of garbage landslide at Leuwigajah dump site, which killed hundreds of victims of the villagers from Cilimus and Pojok, West Java, in 2005. The government collaborates with a number of public elements in their intention to take an active role in managing garbage, to realize a clean environment that will increase the level of healthiness, economics, and welfare of the public.
