On 26 November 2019, Kazakhtelecom JSC won the Telecom M&A Deal of the Year - Asia at the TMT M&A Awards 2019for its acquisition of a 75% stake in Kcell JSC.
The TMT M&A Awards 2019 were organized by TMT Finance, the world's leading news service for mergers and acquisitions in the telecoms, technology and media sectors.
TMT Finance and its global network have, since 2006, been recognizing the outstanding achievements of leading telecom, media and technology companies, investment banks, investors and advisory companies - all dealmakers transforming the TMT industries.
The Awards are based on nominations from the global TMT Finance network, with final shortlists then put before an independent judging panel of 20 key M&A deal advisers and industry experts.
In the TELECOM M&A DEAL OF THE YEAR - ASIA category, Kazakhtelecom competed with such leading telecom companies as Etisalat Lanka (Sri Lanka), M1 (Singapore), Vodafone New Zealand (New Zealand), WTT HK (Hong Kong) and Pan Asia Majestic Eagle Ltd (Myanmar).
Kazakhtelecom won the TELECOM M&A DEAL OF THE YEAR - ASIA award for acquisition of a 75% stake in Kcell JSC, which not only had a significant effect on the company's activities, but also on the telecommunication market of Kazakhstan. The prestigious award was presented to Yerulan Kusainov, member of the Board of Directors of Kazakhtelecom JSC, at the awards ceremony in London.
In nine months following the acquisition, Kcell, being a part of the Kazakhtelecom group, demonstrated an increase across all the key indicators.
Net sales increased by 2.4 percent to KZT 114,170 mln (Q3 2018: 111,447). In the nine month period, our EBITDA (excluding non-recurring expenses) was up 31.0 percent to KZT 47,997 mln (Q3 2018: 36,642), while the Company's operating profit, excluding non-recurring items, grew by 47.5 percent to KZT 24,731 mln (Q3 2018: 16 763).
Thanks to the joint efforts of the management teams of both Kazakhtelecom and Kcell, we see significant improvements in Kcell's corporate governance and its financial performance.
