Keppel Data Centres Holding Pte Ltd. (Keppel Data Centres), a leading developer, manager and operator of high-availability data centres across Asia Pacific and Europe; Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions; Xiangjiang Science & Technology Co., Ltd (Xiangjiang), a technology firm specialising in the development and manufacturing of data centre equipment for leading multinational companies, and Cloud Engine (Beijing) Network Technology Co., Ltd (Cloud Engine), a data centre operator and cloud services systems integrator serving major telecommunications companies in China, have announced an agreement to enhance cooperation in developing more efficient and robust data centres of the future.

The companies will tap one another's expertise to develop, operate and maintain high-availability data centres in China and around the world by leveraging their respective core strengths. For example, Huawei Network Energy will provide a solid backing for this cooperation with advanced technologies such as network connection, energy efficiency improvement, and intelligent management, at the same time Huawei's enterprise cloud offerings and expanding global data centre footprint can potentially benefit from Keppel Data Centres established track record in providing custom data centre solutions across Asia Pacific and Europe, while Xiangjiang can draw on its strengths in data centre equipment and system integration, and Cloud Engine can bring into full play its expertise in technology, capital and consulting.

As leading solutions providers for different parts of the data centre value chain from power and cooling equipment to server hardware, operational know-how and enterprise cloud solutions, the companies intend to jointly promote each other's services when pursuing data centre projects.

Global data centre demand is projected to continue its upward trajectory fuelled by data storage demands that are expected to increase fivefold from 2016 to 2021 as a result of widespread adoption of cloud-based services and the Internet of Things (IoT)1. Underpinning that growth are some 4 billion global internet users2, of which China constitutes almost 20% at 772 million3.
