TORONTO (AP) _ Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. (KL) on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $150.2 million.

The Toronto-based company said it had profit of 54 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 79 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 74 cents per share.

The gold producer posted revenue of $581 million in the period.

Kirkland Lake Gold shares have risen 13% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 8% in the last 12 months.
