Hospital da Luz Surgeries Live-Streamed at the Congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction

09-07-18

The 34th annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), which took place in Barcelona between 1 and 4 July, included a plenary session with live-streamed surgeries from the operatory room at Hospital da Luz Lisboa. The invitation from ESHRE to Hospital da Luz for this specific type of participation in its congress derives from being one of European centres with largest experience in gynaecologic surgeries, namely in the treatment of uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

The surgeries were performed by António Setúbal, coordinator of Hospital da Mulher and of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, Filipa Osório, gynaecologist-obstetrician at this unit, and Attilio di Spiezio Sardo (Department of Gynaecology-Urology-Obstetrics from Hospital Universitário Federico II, in Naples, Italy).

Along three hours, they performed a total of seven surgeries, of different typology (uterine fibroids, ovarian endometriosis, rectovaginal septum and uterine septum). The session was highly interactive - with questions being posed to the surgeons by the chairmen of ESHRE, Stefan Gorts, Michelle Nisolle and Antoine Watrelot -, being followed by approximatively 1.400 participants in this ESHRE meeting, taking place at the international congress centre in Barcelona.

The surgeries and respective live-streaming by satellite were also possible thanks to the support of Storz equipment company and the intervention of the boards of Infrastructure, Maintenance and Equipment, and of Information Technologies and Systems from Grupo Luz Saúde.
