French industrial gases and services company Air Liquide has expanded its utility supply agreement with Dutch chemical firm LyondellBasell for its new propylene oxide (PO) and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) project in the Houston area, US.
The company had previously signed a long-term oxygen supply contract with LyondellBasell for the project, which is expected to be the largest PO/TBA plant worldwide.
Air Liquide has reinforced its presence as a major supplier in the Gulf Coast with the signing of the new long-term agreement and related investment.
The PO/TBA project consists of two Texan facilities, namely the PO/TBA plant in the LyondellBasell Channelview Complex in Channelview and the associated ethers unit in the Bayport Complex in Pasadena.
Under the expanded agreement, Air Liquide will supply steam, electricity, treated water and nitrogen to the ethers unit.
Air Liquide had signed a separate long-term agreement last April to supply oxygen to the PO/TBA projects Channelview location.
The two agreements reiterate Air Liquides long-term partnership with LyondellBasell and establish its presence as a major supplier of industrial gas and utilities to the project.
In July 2017, LyondellBasell announced the construction of the worlds largest PO/TBA plant as part of an organic growth programme.
The project has been designed to meet the increased global demand for urethanes and cleaner-burning oxyfuels.
The project is expected to commence operations in 2021.
Air Liquide USA CEO Susan Ellerbusch said: Air Liquide and LyondellBasell have a long and complementary history in the Gulf Coast region of the US.
We appreciate their continued trust and recognition of Air Liquides customer focus and commitment to safe, reliable and sustainable solutions to help them realise the fullest potential of their new world scale investments.
