THE Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced an increase of P0.1135 per kilowatt-hour in its rates this November because of higher charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

This means an upward adjustment of P10.0901 per kWh this month from P9.9766 per kWh last month, the power distributor said in a statement on Wednesday.

Meralco said the higher WESM charges may be attributed to increases in demand and and in Malampaya gas prices for the period.

Typical households that consume 200 kWh will see an increase of P22.7 in their November bill. Those who consume 300 kWh, will be paying P34.05 more; for 400 kWh, P45.40; and 500 kWh, P56.75.

The increase in power rates came after Meralco lowered its overall rates by P0.25 per kWh in the last two months.
