TORONTO (AP) _ Manulife Financial Corp. (MFC) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $930.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had profit of 46 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 55 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 57 cents per share.

The financial services company posted revenue of $8.46 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $4.22 billion, or $2.09 per share. Revenue was reported as $59.96 billion.

Manulife shares have declined roughly 1% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $20.10, an increase of 26% in the last 12 months.
