Marubeni Corporation

Memorandum of Understanding Signed for a Strategic Relationship in the Medical and Healthcare Industry

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, "Marubeni") has signed Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter, the "Agreement") with Kyushu University Hospital for a strategic partnership in the medical and healthcare industry.

In emerging countries, especially in Southeast Asia, medical demand is rapidly expanding as the population and income increases. On the other hand, there are not enough hospitals where medical services have reached international standards. In addition, in China and Russia, the average lifespan is still lower than in developed countries, so improving medical services, including preventive medicine, is a necessity.

Kyushu University Hospital is a national university hospital with a history extending back more than 100 years. Kyushu University Hospital has multiple functions, in addition to possessing a unique early diagnosis technology that uses endoscopy, it is also an education institution and accepts many foreign doctors from around the globe.

Together, Marubeni and Kyushu University Hospital will proactively providing "Doctor to Doctor Telemedicine"(*1) and endoscopic early diagnostic technology education in emerging countries, mainly in Southeast Asia, where medical and healthcare markets are expected to grow.

Through the Agreement, Marubeni will utilize the medical technology, remote medical education know-how and preventive medical research of Kyushu University Hospital to participate in multifaceted medical businesses overseas.

The first project that the two parties will work on together as part of the Agreement is Marubeni's health checkup and prevention project in Russia(*2). In the mid-term, Marubeni will consider working on a joint project.

(*1) A consultation service from medical specialist to doctor via tele-communication technology. The primary service provided is remote image diagnostics for Radiology and Pathology. This service is provided by Japanese specialist doctors.

(*2) Marubeni is currently working on a Russian-Japanese Health Checkup and Prevention Center in Russia. This project is part of the "cooperation to raise medical standards in Russia and help extend healthy life expectancy of the Russian people" portion of the "Eight-Point Cooperation Plan", which Japanese Prime Minister Abe presented to Russian President Putin at the Japan-Russia Summit Meeting in May 2016 with

the goal of promoting Japan-Russia economic exchange. Reference
