McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the Magpie Court Retirement Living Plus development on High Street in Hanham, has donated £500 to local community group, Friends of Magpie Bottom Nature Reserve, towards a new footbridge.

The new, wider and more pedestrian-friendly bridge - which replaces the previous narrow footbridge - will provide both the local community and homeowners at Magpie Court with much improved accessibility to Magpie Bottom Nature Reserve.

The bridge was unveiled by Margaret Davies from Friends of Magpie Bottom Nature Reserve, who received the cheque from Alison Peacock, sales executive at Magpie Court.

The popular nature reserve, which is adjacent to the new McCarthy and Stone Magpie Court development, has undergone significant restoration of its orchard and footpaths thanks to an Enovert grant, and the hard work of the Friends team.

Margaret Davies from Friends of Magpie Bottom Nature Reserve, commented: 'The Magpie Bottom Nature Reserve is a place of real natural beauty, and we rely on the generosity of our volunteer team, who provide the time to maintain it, as well as grants and donations from local businesses for much-needed improvements.

'The £500 we've received from McCarthy and Stone is fantastic, and has enabled us to replace the previous bridge - which was old, dilapidated and narrow - with one that is robust and fit-for-purpose. This now provides a safe and accessible environment for all who want to visit our beautiful nature reserve, and we look forward to welcoming the homeowners from Magpie Court!'

Ciara Hilley, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy and Stone Southern, commented; 'An important part of what McCarthy and Stone does is support initiatives in the towns and communities where we build our properties that create a lasting, positive legacy. 'We are thrilled to be able to provide support to Friends of Magpie Bottom for the new footbridge into the nature reserve. It really is a beautiful area, and that is testament to the dedication of the Friends team, that works so hard to maintain it. Our homeowners will benefit from the improved accessibility, and I'm sure they will visit it often.' Construction of the Magpie Court Retirement Living Plus development is almost complete and the first homeowners have now moved in.

Designed for over 70s, Magpie Court will feature an on-site bistro, a stunning homeowners' lounge ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, and a convenient guest suite should friends or relatives wish to stay.

Homeowners at the development will benefit from having an Estates Management team on-site 24 hours a day; and tailored care packages and domestic support will be available for those who need a helping hand. A security entrance system and emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind for homeowners and their families.
Located in the Bristol suburb of Hanham, Magpie Court is ideally situated for easy access to a variety of local amenities, including a supermarket, bank and post office. There are also excellent public transport links to both Bath and Bristol.
