DUBLIN (AP) _ Medtronic PLC (MDT) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $1.92 billion.

The Dublin-based company said it had net income of $1.42 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.44 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.38 per share.

The medical device company posted revenue of $7.72 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.81 billion.

For the current quarter ending in April, Medtronic expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.62 to $1.64. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.64.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.63 to $5.65 per share.

Medtronic shares have increased slightly more than 3% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen almost 5%. The stock has increased 27% in the last 12 months.
