Improves speed and economics of sophisticated analytics within large, data-intensive environments

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Vertica Systems, Inc. announced today that MicroStrategy(R) Incorporated, a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence software, has certified MicroStrategy 8 to work with the Vertica(R) Analytic Database. Vertica can now offer MicroStrategy customers a fast, economical way to rapidly deploy "teramarts" that support new BI initiatives by extending information locked within enterprise data warehouses (EDWs) to more people so businesses can increase data-driven decision making at more levels and across more operational fronts.

"The slowing economy hasn't curbed peoples' appetite for data, it's only made it more difficult to fund BI projects to feed it to them. As more people demand access to the information held in EDWs, organizations are challenged to extend the EDWs to meet their requirements and keep them performing fast under the additional workload," said Dr. Jerry Held, Executive Chairman of Vertica Systems (www.vertica.com). Dr. Held is also a speaker at next week's MicroStrategy World 2009 Conference in Las Vegas. "MicroStrategy and Vertica solve this challenge by making it very economical to quickly deliver new teramarts alongside EDWs that help shoulder the analytic workload and give new BI users sophisticated, fast real-time analytics so they can make better business decisions."

The massively parallel, column-oriented Vertica Analytic Database is the only analytic database built from the ground up to handle today's heavy business intelligence workloads. Vertica enables more people to analyze more data faster and at a fraction of the cost of other products. Since its debut in 2007, dozens of companies like Mozilla, JP Morgan, Comcast and Verizon are using Vertica to enable fast, complex ad hoc queries against terabytes of detailed business intelligence and operational analytic data.

In recent customer tests, running the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence Platform(TM) on the Vertica Analytic Database enabled the customer to increase the number of concurrent BI users running queries by 30x. The Vertica Analytic Database does not require customers to make any changes to existing analytic applications in order to take advantage of the speed, efficiency and high-availability of its software.

Vertica is also one of the most versatile when it comes to deployment options. The Vertica Analytic Database can be used and deployed in a variety of ways to support a wide range of analytic workloads and budgets -- on clusters of industry-standard hardware, embedded in an analytic appliance or on-demand hosted in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.

"MicroStrategy's business intelligence software enables companies to make timely, analytically-based business decisions," said MicroStrategy's COO Sanju Bansal. "Certifying MicroStrategy 8 on the Vertica Analytic Database gives customers the ability to rapidly analyze volumes of data, even with large numbers of concurrent users."
