The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of $1.26 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.25 per share.
The steel company posted revenue of $5.9 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $6.11 billion.
Nucor shares have risen nearly 6% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 19%. The stock has dropped 15% in the last 12 months.
