Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan; President, Representative Director: Gyo Sagara, 'ONO') announced that it has joined RE100, an international initiative, aiming to source 100% of the electricity consumed in its business activities with renewable energy

The RE100, an abbreviation of 'Renewable Energy 100%', is an international initiative operated by The Climate Group, an international environmental NGO which promotes climate change countermeasures, in partnership with CDP, an international NPO, that encourages companies to disclose and manage environmental impact information. It consists of companies aiming to procure the electricity for their business operations with 100% renewable energy.

Under the corporate philosophy of 'Dedicated to Man's Fight against Disease and Pain', ONO has not only been engaged in discovering and developing innovative pharmaceutical products, but also been aiming at the realization of a healthy and sound society through our commitment toward a sustainable society. We have been aiming to become an environmentally leading company in the pharmaceutical industry under the medium- and long-term environmental vision, 'Environment Challenging Ono Vision (ECO VISION 2050)', and have set a goal of reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions to zero by FY 2050 with a realization of a carbon-free society as one of the priority issues.

Joining the RE100 initiative this time is our important step to achieve our goals. We will further strengthen our efforts as an ONO group to procure and expand the use of renewable energy.

To achieve 'ECO VISION 2050,' we have set three priority issues: 'Realization of a decarbonized society', 'Realization of a water recycling society', and 'Realization of a resource recycling society'. Our medium- to long-term greenhouse gas emission targets, for the realization of the decarbonized society, were approved in June 2019 as science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets from an international initiative, the Science Based Targets initiative.
