Phillips 66 reported a problem with hydrogen compressors that led to excessive gas emissions at its Sweeny refinery in Texas.

"Loss of vacuum on surface condenser on the compressor caused overpressure on hydrogen compressors which resulted in flaring," the refinery said in a statement Tuesday night to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The refinery said the emissions flaring began Monday night and included more than 1,500 pounds of sulfur dioxide.

The 247,000-barrel-a-day Sweeny refinery is located in Old Ocean, southwest of Houston.
