Berlin, 12 November 2018 - PSI Software AG has been contracted by the Austrian Power Grid AG (APG) with the implementation of the congestion management organization system (EPOS) based on the software product PSIpassage-PCOM+. PSI thus supports the Austrian transmission system operator in the digitalization and automation of the coordination and invoicing of the severely increasing number of congestion management measures.

To avoid the APG-side forecasted Network congestion as well as the requests of neighboring system operators, APG has to undertake actions in the generation of power (EPM measures). Within this framework, power is transmitted across borders or increased or reduced nationally in power generation plants. This takes place with a time horizon of up to 48 hours in coordination with the control areas adjacent to Austria and the Austrian power plant operators.

Based on the existing process, the congestion management organization system will map the coordination, implementation, billing and reporting of EPM measures into a uniform system. In addition, it should provide new functions to the operators and thus enable a more efficient and ergonomic operation.

EPOS is based on PSIpassage-PCOM+, which specializes in energy data management and communication processes. It is also used by three German transmission grid operators to handle processes for power plant resource planning. After an extensive test phase with the market partners, the system will go live in 2020.

APG operates the Austrian transmission grid at voltage levels of 110, 220 and 380 kV with 3,500 km of routes, 6,800 km of lines and processes 100,000 electricity timetables annually.

Based on its own software products, the PSI Group develops and integrates complete solutions for optimizing the flow of energy and materials for utilities (energy networks, energy trading, public transport) and industry (mining, metals production, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics). PSI was founded in 1969 and employs more than 1,750 people worldwide.
