SINCE long, Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra is known as a coal producer. As coal reserves depleted, PT Bukit Asam (Persero) suspended operations at the Ombilin Production Unit in the area.

But the existing pit mines are not closed at all. The former mining area will be used as a mining education museum. GM PT Bukit Asam Production Unit Ombilin Eko Budi Saputro said this museum will be a reference for students to learn and practice in mining matters.

Museum that will be inaugurated July 26 later it is equipped with various facilities such as deep mines. The museum is planned to be a certification testing center especially for mining expertise.

'Preparation is completed July 21. On July 26 we are officially opened, after which it is ready to be used,' said Eko Budi Saputro, recently. Subroto/Maman Sudiaman
