PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) through its subsidiary, PT Bukit Energi Investama (BEI), plans to build a solar power plant (PLTS) in three areas of Sumatra, namely North Sumatra, Riau Islands and South Sumatra. Each PLTS will have a capacity of 35 megawatts (MW), 33.68 MW, and 30 MW. Bukit Asam through PT BEI will become the majority shareholder (51%). 'The PLTS project is planned to be operational by 2022. The investment value is still under review, as well as exploring cooperation with outsiders,' said Arviyan Arifin, President Director of Bukit Asam. Bukit Asam will also soon build a coal-fired power plant (PLTU) of Sumsel 8 coal (Banko Tengah 2x620 MW) located in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, along with China Huadian. PLTU construction is targeted to begin in the third quarter of 2018. In May or June 2018 scheduled financial close of the lender, China Exim Bank. PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) Amendment and CSA (Coal Supply Agreement) on PLTU project of Sumsel 8 have been signed with PT PLN (Persero), Bukit Asam and PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP). Project investment of US$ 1.6 billion with equity financing scheme 25% and debt 75%. Bukit Asam shares by 45%, the remaining 55% is controlled by China Huadian Hong Kong Company Ltd. PLTU Sumsel 8 is targeted to operate commercial (commercial operation date/ COD) in 2022 for unit 1 with coal requirement of 5.4 million tons per year. Arviyan said that for coal transportation optimization, Bukit Asam is cooperating with PT KAI to develop new railway coal transportation project consisting of Tanjung Enim Simpang Perajin (alternative Railway to Northern Sumatera) with capacity of 10 million tons per year and new port of Perajin planned to be operational by 2022. Then, Tanjung Enim Srengsem (alternative Railway to Northern Southern Lampung) with a capacity of 20 million tons/year which is planned to be operational in 2023. 'Cooperation with KAI is also done in order to increase the capacity of the existing railway line, covering double track of the southern route of the Three Elephants Baturaja Martapura along the 34.33 km, double track north path Prabu Lembak Payakabung Kertapati as far as 42.67 km and the development of barge loading facilities Kramasan Dock with a capacity of 5 million tons/year,' said Arviyan.
