Lufthansa Technik Group, a leading global provider of technical aircraft services, is a forward-looking manufacturer innovating on the backbone of strategic product lifecycle management (PLM). Lufthansa recognized that a solid, yet dynamic PLM strategy is the essential foundation for taking advantage of emerging technologies like augmented reality and industrial Internet of Things.

This world-class organization recently announced its selection of PTC's Windchill® PLM solution and ThingWorx® IoT solution as core technologies to digitally transform its product development and engineering processes.

Speaking at LiveWorx 2019, PTC's annual digital transformation conference, Dr. Severin Todt, Senior Director IT Completion and Design Solutions for Lufthansa Technik AG said, 'Lufthansa Technik stands for state-of-the-art workmanship and the very best quality. The magnitude of our organization combined with the complexity of the processes and projects we drive made the dedicated step to across-the-board digital transformation imperative.'

Creating and orchestrating a digital thread from internal teams and also externally to partners, suppliers and customers - this is now a critical component of any transformative initiative. In his session, Dr. Todt explained how the company has successfully digitized its workshops in the maintenance, report, and overhaul of its operations (i.e. MRO Business). Each business has its unique needs when it comes to digital thread - for some, concurrent engineering and manufacturing is critical, while for others, integration with top suppliers may be the top priority.

For Lufthansa Technik, the seamless integration between Windchill® and ThingWorx® will enable new levels of collaboration both internally and among many suppliers. Windchill will serve as the engineering backbone to enable R&D and manufacturing to work concurrently. The secure data repository will also help the company protect its Intellectual Property across its global supply chain while generating greater revenue streams through new and innovative digital business models.
