(Uniondale, NY - June 6, 2019) - From showcasing the benefits of smart meters to teaching children about electrical safety, PSEG Long Island has a new, interactive educational tool it plans to bring to neighborhoods and civic events to engage people of all ages. The My Smart Energy Lab hits the road in a few weeks.

'I am very proud to say that the My Smart Energy Lab was proposed, designed and developed by our own PSEG Long Island employees in order to give our customers better insight into the energy grid, renewable energy, emerging technologies and other important subjects,' said Rick Walden, PSEG Long Island's vice president of Customer Operations. 'We're excited that it will shed light on the benefits of innovations like smart meters - but more importantly, it gives us a chance to show people who we are and what we do.'

The 48-foot trailer is powered entirely by roof-mounted solar panels. Its 12 interactive learning stations start by teaching visitors the basics of the electrical grid before answering questions like which household devices use the most power, which special electric rate is right for them, and which portions of a home's electrical equipment are the customer's responsibility and which are PSEG Long Island's.

Each exhibit is designed to answer questions commonly asked by PSEG Long Island customers.

Several of the exhibits focus on explaining the smart meters PSEG Long Island is rolling out to the entire service area. Visitors can learn when each ZIP code will have full smart meter deployment and can test out the associated online tools that give customers unprecedented insights into their electric usage habits.

With coordination from PSEG Long Island's Community Partnership Program, the My Smart Energy Lab will soon be appearing at community events and in neighborhoods scheduled for smart meter installations. An online schedule will be available in the coming weeks.

PSEG Long Island is committed to giving back to the people and communities it serves by actively supporting hundreds of local charity events each year through the company's Community Partnership Program. Last year, PSEG Long Island employees logged 26,000 service hours volunteering at 1,145 fundraising and community events to support more than 400 organizations.
