Public Service : PSEG Long Island Celebrates Earth Week in Brookhaven with Beautification Projects, Energy-Efficiency Outreach

(Uniondale, NY - April 19, 2019) - In honor of Earth Day, more than 100 PSEG Long Island employees came together on Thursday in the Town of Brookhaven to beautify a local park, reduce Long Island's carbon footprint by helping customers lower their overall electrical demand, and educate the next generation about the importance of conserving energy.

Shortly after 8 a.m., a team of employee volunteers arrived at Eagle Estates Park in Medford and spent the day removing weeds, refreshing flower beds, spreading mulch and planting trees.

Later in the morning, PSEG Long Island volunteers distributed free reusable shopping bags and wildflower seeds to shoppers at the Stop & Shop in Setauket, the Shoprite in Port Jefferson Station, the King Kullen in Eastport and the King Kullen in Patchogue. Another team handed out free LED bulbs at Brookhaven Town Hall. Meanwhile, another team of employees walked down Route 112 offering free energy audits to small businesses to help encourage them to install more-efficient lighting to save energy and money.

Students at Oxhead Elementary in Centerreach also enjoyed 'The Conservation Caper,' a PSEG Long Island-sponsored play about energy efficiency staged by the National Theater for Children.

'I'm proud to work for a company that wants to make a difference. PSEG Long Island isn't going to just one community. We are going to numerous communities so everyone can be involved in making an impact,' said Regina Pizzonia, a Medford resident and PSEG Long Island employee who volunteered on Thursday. 'Earth Week is a time to give back to the earth. If we all did a little something every day, we wouldn't need an event to clean it up.'

'Thanks to Brookhaven Town and our PSEG Long Island senior management, our PSEG Long Island Earth Week events have been a great opportunity for us to meet our community neighbors, help beautify some of our neighborhood parks, distribute energy saving LED bulbs and provide our community with reusable shopping bags,' said John Pratnicki, a PSEG Long Island employee and Wading River resident. 'It's all in the name of protecting our environment for future generations.'

'Our parks are very important to the communities they serve and we work hard to maintain them so they can be enjoyed by families all year round. This week, leading up to Earth Day on April 22, hundreds of PSEG Long Island volunteers will be working in five towns across Long Island as part of a large-scale effort to make public spaces greener, help residential customers use less energy, and help small businesses find new ways to save on more-efficient lighting.
