Energia's young professionals meet the 'Seagull'

On June 19, 2018, the Space and Aviation Center at VDNKh hosted an educational event - a meeting of the world's first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova with the youth working in the rocket and space industry. Among those who came to talk with the legendary 'Seagull', whose mission took place 55 years ago, were young employees of RSC Energia.

Also taking part in the meeting were the Heroes of Russia, female cosmonauts Yelena Kondakova and Yelena Serova, the head and the first deputy head of Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Heroes of Russia Pavel Vlasov and Yuri Malenchenko.

Valentina Tereshkova, guests of honor and young scientists toured the exhibit in the pavilion, after which, in the auditorium, there was a question-and-answer session, which lasted more than an hour.

At the session Valentina Tereshkova introduced her colleagues, who said a few welcoming words to the young people. After that, the young representatives of the rocket and space industry and journalists could ask their questions about the history of our country's cosmonautics and its future prospects.

When answering the question which seems to be the one that is put to the cosmonauts most often: 'whether she would like to fly into space once again?», Valentina Tereshkova admitted: 'I dream about it… I don't just remember that mission, I want to fly it once again more than ever. I understand that my age puts paid to it. But when you're flying over Volga, over your native Yaroslavl, you always want to say some special words, especially to your mom... My flight often comes to me in my dreams, that's an unforgettable event', - concluded Tereshkova to the applause.

- In 1990s Energia only survived owing to the courage of its engineers who refused to quit their profession. But today, our country and our industry can, at long last, breathe freely. In the near term - preparations for lunar exploration. These plans are supported by our president, and I'm certain that the state will provide the funding. And therefore, it's very important that today there are many young specialists in the Corporation - this is a result of wise implementation of the company's personnel policy. The guys are brimming with ideas and are full of determination to implement them, to move forward, to which our today's meeting is yet more proof, - noted the cosmonaut and deputy of the Russian parliament Yelena Serova.

- Such meetings motivate a lot: to accomplish a feat, to work for space, to attract young people to our industry. I will certainly share with kids from Quantorium the impressions which inspired me today thanks to Valentina Tereshkova and our other female cosmonauts! - said an engineer from the Corporation Andrei Tulupov.

The meeting ended with a group photo, taking part in which were also visitors to the exhibition, including guests of the world soccer cup.
