Realtek to Demonstrate Latest IoT, 4x4 11ac High Throughput Wi-Fi, Android OTT STB, and Voice Control Applications at 2015 CES

HSINCHU, Taiwan - January 05, 2015 -Realtek Semiconductor Corp. (Taiwan Stock Exchange: 2379.TW), one of the world's leading network and multimedia IC providers, will be demonstrating the latest IoT, 4x4 11ac High Throughput Wi-Fi, Android Over-the-Top (OTT) STB, and Voice Control applications at 2015 CES.

Smart Home Living 
IoT and wearable application systems, comprising both hardware and software, must be lightweight, power efficient, fast, and scalable. To fulfill these criteria, Realtek's Ameba integrates a high-performance low-power MCU core (ARM® Cortex-M3), multiple serial ports (I2C, UART, SPI, I2S), high speed interfaces (USB, SDIO) and analog-digital interfaces (A/D and D/A converters).

Rather than a traditional OS (e.g. Linux), Ameba runs a lightweight real time OS that consumes less resources and performs faster. This lightweight and flexible architecture can help developers or third parties to quickly and easily build applications for various IoT functions. Ameba's reduced total system cost and PCB size, and its high-speed communication ports and analog-digital interfaces, make it a perfect choice for most IoT applications.

Computers/Communications/Consumer (3C) products are increasingly popular, with many people owning smart phones and digital cameras. These devices are capable of taking/playing high-resolution pictures and high-definition videos that bring a lot of fun to people; however, storing the pictures/video and sharing them to friends often takes a long time using legacy Wi-Fi technologies.

To improve storing and sharing speeds, Realtek offers high-throughput 4x4 11ac solutions, including an AP router and USB dongle that bring many new data transmission technologies, e.g., Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO), Low Density Parity Check (LDPC), beamforming, and Space Time Block Codes (STBCs) that can effectively enhance transmission range and throughput.
Realtek has dedicated 4x4 11ac solutions for STB, OTT box, and TV, allowing viewers to comfortably enjoy high-definition and ultra-high-definition networked video without lag. A two-hour Blu-ray HD movie can be completely transmitted in around 90 seconds. These solutions are perfectly suited to Android platforms.

Realtek offers multiple Wi-Fi modules for various customer applications on the Ameba platform. The Ameba developer's kit (both hardware and software) will also be shown at CES.
