Repsol SA said Monday that it will invest 80 million euros ($90.1 million) in two low-carbon projects in Spain as part of its goal to cut its emissions to net-zero by 2050.

The Spanish energy company said it will invest EUR60 million to build a production plant to manufacture net-zero-emissions fuels using carbon dioxide and hydrogen generated with renewable energy.

Repsol said it will partner with the Energy Agency of the Basque Government and oil-and-gas company Petronor, in which it owns a majority stake. Repsol said the facility will be fully operational in four years and that it expects to produce 50 barrels of synthetic fuels a day.

The second project, in which Repsol will invest EUR20 million, consists of a plant to generate gas from urban waste. The generated gas will replace part of the traditional fuels that are used in Petronor's production process.
