Healthcare workers will get a free communication package courtesy of Safaricom, for the next three months.

This is according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi who says the package will be inclusive of internet bundles and airtime.

"This will form part of their comprehensive care package.

Mwangangi also announced that Safaricom, through its foundation has also contributed close to Sh10 million for thermal scanners and helped in expanding the country's screening capabilities.

Healthcare workers in the country have been working under challenging conditions,

The initiative comes a week after the giant telco reported a 70 percent surge in data usage, including a 40 percent jump in mobile phone data usage.

The trend was also recorded in the home fibre segment, as people continue obeying the government's stay at home directive.

Last month, President Uhuru Kenyatta shut down schools and asked people to work from home where possible, after the country recorded its first case of COBID-19.
