Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fuhrmann elected as a senator of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann, Chief Executive Officer of Salzgitter AG, was elected to the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. His mandate commences on January 1, 2014. This decision was made by the Assembly of Members of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Hanover.

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the largest organization for applied research and development services in Europe. Its institutes work on behalf of clients from commerce, industry, and the public sector. The aim of this applied research is to use science and research for innovative products and applications.

"As an engineer and economist, Prof. Dr. Fuhrmann is a generalist who, in his role as a business leader, is exceptionally suited to the requirement profile placed on members of our Senate", explained Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The Senate appoints the members of the Executive Board and establishes the basic science and research policies. It also formulates decisions concerning the establishment, changes to the legal structure, or the dissolution of the research entities belonging to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The Senate comprises around 30 members who are eminent figures from the world of science, business, industry, and public life, in addition to representatives of national and regional government, and members of the Scientific and Technical Council.
