Verizon has released the January 2019 security patch updates for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ smartphones. The updates are in the form of routine updates to the firmware along with bug fixes if any and the latest patches for Android security. The security patches are usually part of the firmware updates to take care of any features or vulnerabilities that might have come to the attention of the Android team or as reported on forums.

20th Updates for the Phones

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones were released by the South Korean company in 2017 and till the last update in December 2018, 19 updates have been released. This January update is their 20th. The version numbers for Galaxy S8 is R16NW.G950USQU5CRK1 whereas, for Galaxy S8 Plus, it is R16NW.G955USQU5CRL2. The Android Security patch level is of November 2018. This update for Android security, dated November 29, is its latest.

If you have one of these devices issued by Verizon, then you must follow the instructions on the Verizon site for the downloading of the update and its installation on your device. The general requirements of Wi-Fi connectivity and the device is fully charged apply here as well. Verizon has indicated that the overall time taken for the complete process will not be more than 12 to 20 minutes. There are different ways the software updates can be downloaded and installed on your Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ like self-initiated, OTA or server initiated.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ Has Superior Specifications

When Samsung released the twin models, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, the latter had better specs with 6.2 inches display against 5.8-inch of the S8 and the phones have different processors for different markets, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC for the US and China markets and the in-house Exynos 8895 for most other regions. The RAM too is 6 GB for the S8+ while it is 4 GB for the Samsung Galaxy S8. The phones still enjoy a certain demand since one can pick up the devices at much lower prices than when they were released. Users may not mind that it is an old model if they intend to use it as a second phone.
